From Risoul, driving over the pass is definitely no longer permitted. All access roads to the trail are closed, and there’s another closure at the second curve. From Saint-André-d’Embrun, there are no driving restrictions, not even on the descent from Col Valbelle to Risoul (only toward Vars). We spent the night on the pass (and had previously stayed further down) and then drove down to Risoul early in the morning, before any hikers or cyclists were out and about. The entire route was relatively easy to drive in a VW California.

A varied, easy-to-ride trail. From mountain views to cattle grazing in open pastures—it has it all. Old ruins along the route make it well worth seeing. No hidden surprises.

Easy to drive on. It’s really beautifully secluded—you’ll discover lots of ruins and livestock farms right in the middle of the bush. With the current heat, it feels like the Outback. Toward the end of the tour, I took a wrong turn and immediately came across several trails with large rocks and scree. Recommended for a quick getaway.
