Rio Gallego and Sierra de Los Blancos
The pretty little town of Luna is located about five kilometers north of the main road A-125. Founded around the year 1000 by Christian knights, it now has over 800 inhabitants and proudly defies the depopulation of the Spanish hinterland. A visit to Luna is also worthwhile because of the gravel road that leads east from here into the valley of the Rio Gàllego. Except for a few short tricky sections, it is quite passable and guarantees an all-round harmonious off-road excursion.
The wide road begins east of the town and curves steadily uphill. The views over the green hills are impressive. Now and then you have to overcome loose rubble and low stone steps, but otherwise the journey is problem-free. We cross the hamlet of Lacorvilla on asphalt. Behind it, the nature trail continues uphill, reaches its highest point at 731 meters (see previous tour) and then descends in pleasingly good condition into the valley of the Rio Gàllego.
From Ardisa, we follow a wide gravel track that runs above the river. On the way, we pay a visit to the ghost village of Sierra de los Blancos, after which it is a short stretch to the main road A-125.
