To create this GPS off-road guidebook, we spent 10 weeks travelling along adventurous tracks in the Pyrenees. The result is a total of 29 off-road routes set against a breathtaking mountain backdrop. We drove, mapped, described and photographed every route ourselves.

GPS Off-Road Tour Guide: The Pyrenees

29 detailed off-road route descriptions await you in this 4×4 tour guide. We cross the Pyrenees from east to west along adventurous mountain tracks, often with magnificent panoramic views from the summits. We explore the border region around Andorra via old smugglers’ trails. We drive through national parks featuring unspoilt wilderness and a rich variety of flora. Interesting features provide background information on ‘lost places’, ancient castles, unusual railway lines and the region’s unique wildlife. The tour guide is supplemented with tips on off-road driving and navigation.

Each route is assigned a difficulty rating (DR), which helps you assess it in relation to the vehicle classes (VC). We have rated the routes using a star system, which reflects our impression of driving enjoyment, scenic beauty and the overall experience. These star ratings are, of course, highly subjective. The guidebook is supplemented with general travel information on the areas in the Pyrenees and off-road driving tips.

Download Data

With the data download, you will receive the following for each route:

– all GPS tracks and waypoints (GPX)

The "GPS Data" folder contains three subfolders. These contain the route, track, and waypoint list for each off-road route in two versions: one as a KML file for display in Google Earth and the other as a GPX file, the exchange format for all navigation programs and GPS devices.

We hope you enjoy this travel guide and have an exciting trip.

What vehicle sizes is the 4x4 tour book suitable for?

Vehicle Classes (FZK) 1-4

We frequently receive questions about our vehicle class classification. Therefore, we have divided it as follows:

FZK-1 Off-road vehicles (Defender, Cruiser, G, etc.) in near-original condition.

FZK-2 Pickup with cab, 4x4 Sprinter, Bremach, Daily 4x4, etc.

FZK-3 Trucks up to 12 tons, Unimog, 12M18, 1017, TGL, etc.

FZK-4 Heavy trucks, Zetros 6x6, MAN KAT, etc.

The transitions are fluid. A light, compact Unimog can also travel FZK-2 routes that might be impassable for a pickup with an extremely heavy, high cab and poor approach and departure angles, which would then fall more into category 3.

The 4x4 Off-Road Tour Book Pyrenees lists 29 routes. All of these are passable with FZK 1, 30 routes with FZK 2. 10 routes are passable with FZK 3, and one route with FZK 4.
