Right in the middle of the path, a barbed-wire fence has been strung across it. There’s no way through.

Through holm oak woods of Monte Pisanu
Monte Pisanu, at 1,013 metres above sea level, rises like a silent sentinel over southwestern Sardinia. Nestled in the rugged Sulcis Mountains near Cagliari, the mountain is not only a paradise for nature lovers, but also offers views that take your breath away: from its summit, a panorama stretches out that shows the Campidano Valley, the Sulcis Mountains and the turquoise coast. Cork oaks and holm oaks provide shade on hot summer days and give the mountain a cool, green aura. The maquis fills the air with the scent of rosemary, thyme and sage. A mixture of coastal plants and wild herbs grows in the higher elevations.
To experience Monte Pisanu up close, we recommend the gravel road from Bono (located on the SP 6) heading west. This not-so-easy route perfectly combines driving and scenic enjoyment. Fantastic views alternate with dense holm oak forests, harmless kilometers on wide tracks alternate with challenging curves and bends in deep scree.
The holm oak is the typical tree in Sardinia. Its crown consists of a dense wreath of dark evergreen leaves that are covered with fine hairs and can therefore store water. The holm oak can also thrive wonderfully on barren, dry soils. This makes the tree a symbol of resilience and adaptability. Characteristics that also apply to the people of Sardinia.
