GPS Off-Road Tour Guide: Umbria / Abruzzo
Book including code for data download
To compile this GPS OFF-ROAD Tour Guide, we spent six weeks travelling in our Land Rover Defender along adventurous mountain tracks in the Central Apennines.
The result is a total of 28 off-road routes in the regions of Umbria, Marche and Abruzzo. We have driven and described every route ourselves.
This 4×4 tour guide features 28 detailed off-road route descriptions along with the corresponding waypoint lists. Between Rimini and Rome, the routes take you along exciting tracks to lovely, grass-covered hilltops or along rugged, rocky mountain slopes to unique vantage points.
From well-maintained, easy-to-drive gravel tracks to adventurous sections with extreme ascents and descents, there’s a suitable route for every off-road enthusiast.
The result is a total of 244 pages, DIN A5 format, in full colour.
Which vehicle sizes is the 4×4 tour guide suitable for?
Vehicle classes (FZK) 1–4
Here’s how we categorise them:
Vehicle Class 1: Off-road vehicles (Defender, Cruiser, G-Class, etc.) in near-original condition.
Vehicle Class 2: Pick-ups with cab, 4x4 Sprinter, Bremach, Daily 4x4, etc.
Vehicle Class 3: Lorries up to 12 tonnes, Unimog, 12M18, 1017, TGL, etc.
FZK-4: heavy lorries, Zetros 6×6, MAN KAT, etc.
The boundaries between these categories are fluid. A light, compact Unimog can also travel on FZK-2 routes, which may be impassable for a pick-up with an extremely heavy, high cab and poor approach and departure angles.
Due to narrow, partly overgrown tracks, 6 routes are only suitable for vehicle category 1, leaving 22 tracks suitable for vehicle category 2.
Some routes in the Umbria/Abruzzo tour guide can also be accessed by large vehicles. Of the 28 routes, 13 are suitable for vehicle category 3, 5 of which are also suitable for vehicle category 4.
17 routes can also be driven without four-wheel drive in dry weather.
