Coastal track at Capo Mannu
Capu Mannu, the "big cape", is a well-known place on the west coast of Sardinia, about 20 kilometers northwest of Oristano in the Sinis region. At its tip is a lighthouse that is still in operation and offers a fantastic panorama. The headland is famous for its powerful waves, pristine beaches and impressive nature. This is probably why Capo Mannu attracts surfers from all over the world.
But that's not all - the region also has a highlight to offer for fans of rough terrain: the short but impressive gravel road directly along the cliffs of Tingiosu.
The journey begins on the SP 66 road leading from Riola Sardo. The Tombe dei Giganti immediately come into view. This burial site is a remnant of the Nuraghe culture, which flourished in Sardinia between the 18th and 2nd centuries BC. The giants' tombs are huge megalithic structures that were used for collective burials and probably also served religious ceremonies and rituals.
The easy-to-drive track then follows the coastline very closely and delights with fantastic panoramas. The limestone cliffs tower high above the sea. They were created over millions of years by wind and weather. Past Capo Sa Sturaggia, the route continues to meander along the coastline on decent gravel until the end of the tour appears at Mari Ermi beach. Here, too, there is something to behold - the white and amber-colored quartz pebbles of the beach shimmer in the sunlight like colorful lights.
