The 49 km route connects 2 beautiful, pristine valleys near the French border. From Demonte on the SS 21, the route leads to Marmora on the SP 113 in Piedmont.

From the starting point in Demonte, you first ride up into the mountains on the paved road. From the village of San Giacomo, a beautiful valley begins. You first ride through a few hairpin bends, then a gravel section leads through beautiful flower meadows and pastures. At Colle Valcavera, you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the Stura Valley and the Maira Valley. The route then continues on a single-track gravel section past a monument, from where you can once again enjoy the spectacular view of the mountains. The rest of the route over Colle Bandia and Colle Margherina is on gravel and sometimes loose, stony ground. A worthwhile stop on the plateau is the Rifugio Gardetta, which can be reached on foot via a hiking trail. Good food and friendly staff await you in this magnificent mountain panorama. The last part leads downhill to Colle Preit, past small streams and green meadows. After passing through the typical mountain village of Preit, the tour ends in Marmora.

Closure or obstruction

I believe this pass is now closed to motorized traffic. There are signs indicating this at Canosio, and this was confirmed by the campground owner at the bottom of the pass.
