Restrictions on driving on the Maira Stura ridge road: Since 2023, the Maira Stura ridge road has been closed to motorized vehicles from June 15 to September 15 on all weekends and public holidays. In addition, a driving ban came into force daily from 9:00 p.m., which was valid until six o'clock in the morning. One week before and one week after Ferragosto (Mariä Himmelfahrt), the off-road route was only allowed to be frequented by mountain bikers and hikers. For 2025, we do not yet have any binding regulations for the Maira Stura ridge road

The Maira-Stura ridge road, a scenic treat with a magnificent mountain panorama and magnificent views, also has a number of challenges to offer as a former military road.

It doesn't quite come close to the Ligurian border ridge road - but could be described as an ideal training route for it. It runs between Col Valcavera and Canòsio. A large part of the 23 kilometers runs through the alpine altitude range, which closely approaches the 2500 meter mark - and over loose gravel. Several times the road, which is very narrow in places, winds adventurously along the rocks. It is worth stopping in Marmora, where you can marvel at an idyllic hut village. But that's not all: the Biblioteca del Monastero Benedettino, at an altitude of 1548 meters, has been Europe's highest library since 2007.
