For this GPS Off-Road Touring Guide, we spent six months exploring adventurous trails across Morocco in 2024. The result is a collection of 46 off-road routes through breathtaking desert landscapes. We drove every route ourselves, recorded the GPS data, wrote detailed descriptions and documented each route with photographs.

This travel guide features 46 detailed route descriptions. Some take you across rugged volcanic terrain and past bizarre basalt cones in the Anti-Atlas, while others follow former Paris–Dakar Rally tracks across endless, heat-shimmering gravel plains. Other routes lead along adventurous mountain trails through the High Atlas, with scenery that will take your breath away.

And, of course, there are spectacular routes through the dunes of Erg Chegaga leading to picturesque oases. There is something for every driver and every type of vehicle. The routes are classified into four vehicle classes and five difficulty levels.

At the end of each route description, you will find a waypoint list that provides useful guidance for passengers who cannot see the GPS device. Each route is given a difficulty rating (SG), making it easier to assess the route in combination with the vehicle classes (FZK).

We have also rated the routes using a star system based on our impressions of driving enjoyment, scenic beauty and the overall experience. These star ratings are, of course, highly subjective.

The travel guide also includes general travel information about Morocco and useful tips on off-road driving.

Data Download

With the data download, you will receive the following for each route:
– all GPS tracks and waypoints (GPX)

The ‘GPS Data’ folder contains two subfolders. These include the track and waypoint list for each off-road route in two different file formats: a KML file for viewing in Google Earth and a GPX file, the standard exchange format for navigation software and GPS devices.
