In the valley of the Rio la Noguera Pallaresa you are already pretty close to the high Pyrenean peaks. Mountains such as the Montsaliente to the west of the river reach heights of up to 2,900 meters. The region is sparsely populated, making it a paradise for mountaineers and hikers. So that they don't have to spend the night outdoors, shelters have been built and distributed throughout the mountain region. One of these huts, the Refugi del Pla de la Font, is the destination of an easy off-road trip that starts in the river valley and returns there.

Following the river valley from the south, turn left off the C-13 road about two kilometers before al Guingueta d'Àneu, climb a handful of sharp switchbacks on asphalt and after about five kilometers take the turnoff to the right towards Jou. Once around the hamlet, then left into the off-road fun. The refuge is already signposted, and a beautiful gravel road winds its way through the forest up the mountainside in great curves and bends. The turnoff to the refuge car park is quickly reached. Now another ten minutes' walk and we are standing in front of the refuge at an altitude of 2,016 meters and can enjoy the breathtaking view of the peaks of the Pyrenees. And get fresh water from the spring.

Back at the turnoff, the descent back into the valley begins. Beautiful gravel surface, easy curves, wide path. Shortly before the town of Son, asphalt comes into play, then another three and a half kilometers of road with two tough switchbacks, and the river is reached.
