Over the Nido Cuervo
Wide, long and easy - the route from Enciso to Terroba also turns out to be a real treat for owners of heavy four-wheel drive trucks. At altitudes between 1,200 and 1,500 meters, it circles through a wooded mountain landscape, revealing beautiful views of the valleys and over the heights every now and then. Mountain meadows and high pastures provide visual variety. Along this route, too, there are - as you might expect - several ghost villages that can be explored.
The first of them, Escurquilla, is just two kilometers above Enciso. Although it has been empty since the 1960s, its ruins are relatively well preserved. Here, too, the same development as in most ghost villages: At some point, farming was no longer profitable and people moved to the larger towns in the valleys.
The track continues to wind steadily uphill to reach its peak below the Nido Cuervo at an altitude of 1,469 meters. It passes wind turbines and initially maintains its altitude before descending into a valley, on the slope of which La Santa stands on a hill. This time we can drive to the center of the town by motorbike and four-wheel drive vehicle and park there. Agriculture and livestock farming have been practiced around La Santa since the Middle Ages, and it has been empty since the 1960s. The reasons are well known - no electricity, falling producer prices, no income.
Behind La Santa, the track climbs a mountain ridge one last time, follows it for a few kilometers and finally descends to Terroba in the valley of the Rio Leza.
