The village of Berdùn, with a population of 250, rises up like a small fortress on a table mountain above the Rio Veral. First mentioned in documents in 917, it was initially located on the river bank. After two floods, however, the residents changed their minds and rebuilt their village on the nearby table mountain. Since then, Berdùn has been a real landmark in the region east of the Yesa reservoir.

From Berdùn, a simple gravel road leads to the ghost village of Huértalo, about twelve kilometers away, and then further into the valley of the Rio Majones. The road is nice and wide and covered with fine gravel, so that even large trucks can find their way to Huértalo. And it's worth it - the town is located on a hill like a film set. The last resident of Huértalo died around 20 years ago. Since then, not a soul has lived up here, and nature is gradually reclaiming the village. Thanks to its isolated location, Huértalo has neither been destroyed nor defaced by graffiti. You can drive a vehicle to just outside the town and do the rest on foot.

From Huértalo it is another three kilometers on an easy track to Majones in the valley of the river of the same name.

Beautiful scenery, easy to drive through, great ghost town, quiet place to spend the night. It’s a short trip, but definitely worth it.
