Coll de Fadas track
To get from the valley of the Rio Esábena to the west into the valley of the Rio Èsera, you can take the main road N-260 via Castejón de Sos. You can. But you can also take the gravel road, which basically cuts off the asphalt curve via Castejón de Sos. In terms of kilometers, it's the same; you're much faster on the N-260. But who wants to get somewhere quickly? Exactly. It has to be fun, that's what matters. And the track is much more fun than the road.
About six kilometers before Bisaurri, our fun route leaves the N-260 to the southwest at the 1,470-meter-high Coll de Fadas and follows a sign in the direction of La Muria. It goes quickly on easily navigable gravel past the towns of Dos, San Feliù de Veri and La Muria. Sometimes through the forest, sometimes across open areas. The town of Gabas comes into view. The track had behaved well up until now, but now it shows bad manners: it circles steeply on rough, loose gravel in tight switchbacks, first uphill, then downhill. At an angle to the slope, it goes along fields of scree, and the path has slipped in places. Here, a cool head and a good eye are essential to ensure that the four-wheel drive vehicle can get through.
Just before Seira, the problem is over, and a small asphalt road takes us all the way down into the valley.
