Caballera Track
From the valley of the Rio Ésera, a varied track leads westwards to the Embalse de Mediano reservoir. Nothing adventurous or high alpine, but a picturesque route through the foothills of the Pyrenees. In addition to views of the two valleys of the Rio Ésera and the Mediano reservoir, there is also an abandoned village along the way and a small driving challenge, a water crossing and a tricky gravel passage.
The start: From the A-139, you turn off towards Besiáns, but shortly before the town, take the turnoff onto a forest track. On a partly concrete, partly gravel surface, it takes on the eastern flank of the Rio Ésera. The whole thing goes smoothly. Unless the snow is melting, the shallow water crossing is more fun than scary.
Shortly afterwards, the abandoned houses of Caballera come into view. The route now changes its nature in a flash and throws rough stones, furrows and edges in front of our wheels. The intermezzo only lasts a short time, after which a beautiful wide track awaits, which first reaches the highest point of the tour at 1,050 metres and then curves down on asphalt to Troncedo.
