West of Roda de Ter, the river Ter is dammed for longer stretches. Once at the Pantà de Susqueda dam and once at the Pantà de Sau dam. We have already done the trip around the Susqueda reservoir (see previous tour), now an off-road tour awaits with the Sau reservoir as a base. To do this, drive north from Roda de Ter to l’Esquirol and turn right there onto the BV-5207 towards Tavertet. After about three kilometers, turn left to les Planes and immediately after 200 meters, turn right again onto a gravel road. It is mediocre, occasionally throwing large stones and grooves in front of the wheels, but overall it is easy to ride. It circles steadily uphill, a farm comes into view, and the interspersed bends make for fun riding. Behind a 1,000 meter high saddle, there are more bends, this time downhill.

In Tavertet, the valley floor is reached. Its medieval town center consists of a maze of winding cobblestone streets. The old stone houses look as if they had always stood here. Tavertet is impressive in terms of landscape, with its location above a huge cliff face with a breathtaking view.

From Tavertet, the route goes downhill towards the southwest on a passable gravel road. After about three kilometers, the Mirador del Castell viewpoint appears. A place that you won't forget in a hurry: below, the deep blue Pantà de Sau reservoir, behind it dark green forests, on the horizon the peaks of distant mountains. Back in Tavertet, you continue left on the BV-5207 to l'Esquirol, eleven kilometers away.
