Turbines and forests
Two villages south of Sangüesa are still inhabited - and the emphasis is on "still". A few hundred inhabitants each are staying in Sos del Rey Catolicò and Sofuentes. One more reason to support the brave and visit both places. The best way to do this is with an easy off-road tour.
We reach Sos del Rey on asphalt from Sangüesa on the A 127. Once around the town, a bit straight ahead, a few switchbacks, then the gravel track branches off to the right to a wind farm. We follow it. The path quickly climbs a mountain ridge through a mixed forest and then moves along it towards the southwest with great views. It meanders comfortably between wind turbines, to which side roads branch off from time to time. Not difficult, but a little more demanding, the track now moves down into the valley. On the way, the ruins of an abandoned hamlet offer a nice place to take a break or spend the night. Finally, we reach the town of Sofuentes on a light gravel surface. From there, we can either turn left onto the asphalt back to Sos del Rey or turn right to Castiliscar.
