Planina Javornik
The Steiner Alps, or as the Slovenians call them: the Kamnik-Savinja Alps, are usually considered to be part of the Karawanks. This is not entirely correct, as they form their own mountain range south of the Karawanks. Named after the town of Kamnik, they are divided into three regions: the 2,132-meter-high Storžič group in the west, the 2,558-meter-high Grintovec group in the middle, and the Karst plateau in the east. There are numerous high alpine pastures on this, the most famous of which is the Velika planina. Is it also the most beautiful? Who knows. In any case, it faces strong competition from the Planina Javornik. The dairymen's summer huts are scattered across a large mountain meadow like a postcard. The alpine pasture is surrounded by coniferous forest, above which the peaks of the surrounding giant mountains tower. Hear the total peace, breathe in the clean air, let your thoughts go - a visit to Planina Javornik is like a journey to another world.
This journey begins on road no. 101 in Tržič, where you turn right towards Lom and Potarje. You leave Potarje on the left, pass Lom and Grahovše, and after about a kilometer you come to a fork. There you keep left and have the first few meters of the off-road track under your wheels. The surface is well preserved, the fine gravel does not cause any problems. After a short stretch you have to pay a small toll, which goes towards the maintenance of this road. In a left bend the turnoff to Planina Javornik comes into view. From there it is just under a kilometer, then the panorama of the high alpine pasture opens up.
Back at the junction the route continues straight ahead and continues downhill on a still decent gravel surface. You pass a harmless ford and a quarry and reach the end of the track in Potarje.
