The start of this tour is south of Bočna.

The route leads uphill through the forest on a good gravel surface. Along the Menina planina plateau, always between 1360 m and 1455 m above sea level, you have wonderful views of the mountains. Be careful, in this passage you have to cross cattle grids several times.

The Dom na Menini planini mountain hut is at 1453 m and offers good regional cuisine. In addition to a small wooden chapel, there is a memorial to the Second World War on the grounds. After a short hike of around 10 minutes to the highest mountain in the region, the Vivodnik (1508 m), you have a fantastic panoramic view.

You continue across the plateau to Biba Planina, a beautiful lookout point with a small chapel. The gravel road winds past alpine meadows one last time before heading downhill, partly secured with wooden planks, through the forest to Okrog pri Motniku.

Conditions, closures and tips — from members who drove here recently.

The road closure appears to have been lifted again. Trees have probably been felled recently. You have a great view from the top. Watch out for a lot of oncoming traffic.

There’s hardly any traffic on this easy-to-navigate gravel road, which offers great views. The 15-minute drive to Vivodnik was well worth it, though the cabin there was still closed. We enjoyed another beautiful panoramic view at the small chapel before heading back down into the valley.

A well-maintained, public gravel road. At the start, you have beautiful views back down the valley toward Gornji Grad, where you’re coming from. On the plateau, you’ll see views of the alpine pastures. There’s a mountain hut open to the public near the summit. On Sundays when the weather is good, there is heavy traffic from day-trippers in cars, on mountain bikes, and on foot.
