A 26-kilometer-long gravel road winds along the western slope of the Pohorje Mountains (Slovene: Pohorje), which offers not only a lot of driving fun but also fantastic views down into various valleys. Small hamlets and lonely alpine pastures alternate with one another and are often the only traces of human civilization in this alpine solitude.

The route is accessed via road no. 702 via Vuzenica (German: Saldenhofen). You leave the town to the northeast, come through Sv. Vid (Sv. is the abbreviation for Svedi, which means Saint or St.), follow the turnoff to Pistrov grad Castle and already have the first few meters of gravel under your wheels. The detour to the castle is worthwhile - the view from up there down into the Drava valley is great. The view of Vuzenica, which opens up after just under a kilometer of road, is also impressive. You should enjoy it, because from now on there are almost only trees on the side of the road.

The well-maintained gravel road meanders comfortably along the flank of the Pohorje and passes through charming little hamlets such as Zlabnik, Marak, Lubas and Bibovnik. Most of the time it goes through dense forest, but every now and then the trees become sparser and offer beautiful views. A short asphalt section follows, from which you can take a detour to the church of St. Anton. It is also worth stopping at the Jauh hut, where a miniature water mill attracts attention.

Crossing a few wooden bridges, the road now winds downhill. About three kilometers before Plesnik the gravel ends and the asphalt road begins.

Watch out for locals driving fast who also cut corners, as well as dogs running loose that like to run right at you 😬
