Nanos is one of the most famous Slovenian mountains on the southeastern edge of the Julian Alps. The high plateau is visible from afar. The approximately 13 km long tour repeatedly changes from tarmac to gravel.

The start is on the 444 behind Hrasce. Follow the signpost to Nanos and continue on a tarmac road through the first 3 bends of this tour. The route is partially secured by walls and guard rails. There are 7 bends with gradients of up to 16%, and along the way there are wonderful views of the Vipara Valley.

You approach the Nanos karst plateau and the surface repeatedly changes to gravel. A small side road branches off at GPS 45.782734, 14.035872 and leads to the church of Sv. Hieronima. From the pretty stone church you have a great panoramic view all the way to the Adriatic.

The route now continues onto the plateau, the route ends at a car park. From here it is about 300 m on foot to the Vojkova koča mountain hut. A well-marked path takes you to Mount Pleša (1262 m), which lies above the mountain hut, in about an hour and a half. After the not entirely easy climb, you will be rewarded with a magnificent panoramic view.

This route can be ridden in several ways. The easy way is as shown in the GPX file, but the route can be much more challenging if you choose to deviate from the marked trail. If you deviate from the trail as we did, expect some rock crawling and very loose surfaces. The detour is also very narrow (my compass barely fit)

Very easy route, mostly on asphalt. Some of the roads are narrow single-lane roads, so you should be prepared for longer maneuvering manoeuvres with oncoming traffic. The route was no problem with a 3.5-ton four-wheel drive motorhome.
