Jurjeva dolina
A kind of insider tip in the endless reservoir of Slovenian high alpine pastures is the Jurjeva dolina. For your information: A dolina, literally valley, is a high valley or high alpine pasture.
The Jurjeva dolina is located in the mountains south of the Cerkniško jezero, the largest lake in Slovenia - when it has water. It is a seepage lake that dries up in summer. You can reach the Jurjeva dolina from road no. 213 from Stari trg pri Ložu, where you turn onto a small asphalt road towards Dane and Gorenje jezero. Behind Dane, just before the town of Klance, an unpaved track branches off to the left - the start of the route up to the high alpine pasture.
It winds its way through the forest on gravel that is easy to ride. Now and then the wheels bump over slight transverse grooves, but otherwise the track is pure fun. After about thirteen kilometers, the deciduous forest opens up and the Jurjeva dolina comes into view. A gem, a real oasis of peace. Lush, green alpine meadows, happy cows and sheep. A place for romantics.
Continue on a wide, beautiful gravel road. After about three kilometers, turn left towards Juršče. Another high alpine pasture follows, the gravel becomes a little rougher, then the roofs of the town of Juršče come into view. A panorama that deserves a photo stop. In Juršče, the gravel ends and the asphalt begins.
