Straninger Alm | Gailtal

The 28 km tour starts in Kirchbach and leads through the Carinthian mountains to the Italian border. A beautiful high-altitude trail connects two outstanding alpine pastures in the Gaitaler Alps.

The starting point is on the L 24 near Goderschach, easily accessible from the parallel B 111. The gravel road is easy to drive on and winds its way uphill through the forest. After passing through a ford, you reach beautiful alpine meadows and the popular Straniger Alm, situated in this beautiful landscape. A connecting path continues uphill through green mountain meadows dotted with conifers. The gravel track, which is partly pitted with rain holes, winds its way to the next alpine inn, the beautiful Waidegger Alm. A brilliant panoramic view of the wide, rolling meadows and the imposing peaks of the Alps awaits you. On the way back, it is worth making a detour to the Passo Polentin. This special border crossing is only a stone's throw away from the Straniger Alm. The challenging part of the pass road on the Italian side leads over scree-like ground and very steep sections with deep ruts. This tour ends in the valley in the tranquil village of Goderschach.
