Don’t worry – this off-road tour is not just for fans of religious buildings. Although two monasteries are indeed highlights, there’s also something else to look forward to: stunning views and an exhilarating terrain experience.
Starting point: Kolašin. This small winter sports center, with its 3,000 residents, was heavily impacted during World War II but has since been nearly restored to its original state. So, a stroll through this town, founded by the Ottomans in the 17th century, is well worth it before the tour.
Afterward, you leave Kolašin via the suburb of Dulovine, pass under the railway line, and shortly find yourself on a gravel road. This road steadily winds upward over the next kilometers, offering beautiful views back to Kolašin. After about ten kilometers, there’s a detour to two nearby monasteries – Ćirilovats and Čirilovac. Both were built at the foot of Mount Ključ at the end of the 20th century and are quite popular among the people of Kolašin. No wonder, given the lovely combination of religion and nature.
Continuing on the road with its pleasant gravel surface, the next viewpoint appears – a chapel belonging to the Čirilovac monastery. Behind it lies the only tricky section of this tour, a narrow passage along a cliff. The following sprint is again easy to navigate and ends in Paljevine on asphalt. A left turn, and we’re back in Kolašin.

We rode this trail in the opposite direction, right after Route 20 in Biogradska Gora National Park. Spectacular scenery. Varied terrain with frequent 360-degree views! On the climbs, we sometimes needed low gears and the diff lock, but it was totally doable! It was never nerve-wracking :) Awesome!
