Tucked between Bosnia and Herzegovina and northwestern Montenegro lies a mountain range whose name even the locals rarely utter – the Ljubišnja. With just a few scattered hamlets, vast alpine meadows, and grazing pastures connected by a handful of gravel roads, civilization is sparse at elevations ranging between 800 and 2,200 meters. This isolation likely explains the Ljubišnja's low profile and offers the perfect excuse for fans of scenic off-road adventures to pay this mountain range a visit.
To get there, drive about ten kilometers south from Pljevlja on the M 6 and turn right onto an easy-to-navigate gravel road at Odžak. Alternating between wide and narrow stretches, the road climbs steadily through a diverse mountain landscape of barren high plateaus and dense forests. The hamlet of Bobovo comes into view, situated at 600 meters above sea level in a picturesque high valley. Its emblematic plant is the alpine rose, a member of the rhododendron family that blooms in beautiful shades of pink across the region.
Beyond Bobovo, the route ascends again, winding through sharp curves and passing the hamlet of Slatina. A little further along, at Ogradenica, you’ll be treated to a lovely view down into the Tara Valley. Finally, the gravel road comes to its end in Rončeviči.
