The Visitor mountain massif rises in eastern Montenegro, northwest of the town of Plav, reaching an altitude of 2,211 meters. The crown jewel of this 12-kilometer-long and 7-kilometer-wide massif is the eponymous mountain lake, Visitorsko Jezero. This hidden gem, located near the hamlet of Mramorje, is the destination of a demanding but highly rewarding off-road adventure.

The journey begins in the village of Pepiće, in the Lim Valley along the R2. Right from the start, the trail gets serious: a steep and rugged forest path climbs from 900 meters up the flank of the Visitor massif. After the first few kilometers, the path becomes somewhat more manageable but remains challenging. In wet weather, the numerous muddy sections can quickly turn treacherous. The route is punctuated with tight switchbacks that require skill and focus, but the effort pays off when you reach Visitorsko Jezero, nestled below the Mramorje katun.

Here, you can finally turn off the engine, wipe the sweat from your brow, and soak in the unique atmosphere of this secluded spot. The artificial island in the lake is said to have been built by shepherds who used it to shelter their animals overnight, keeping them safe from wolves.
