The route is cool, but definitely challenging for a touring enduro (mine weighs “only” about 195 kg with a full tank and luggage)! I rode it from east to west, so I ended up at the lake. It wasn’t easy, but it’s doable if you’re experienced. The other way around—starting from the lake—I definitely wouldn’t recommend it for touring enduros! In that direction, you’re riding uphill through sections that are sometimes extremely rocky and steep, which, in my opinion, is significantly more difficult than going downhill. So think it through carefully—and definitely don’t go alone.
Biogradska Gora Nationalpark
He is the smallest of Montenegro's national parks, but also one of the most beautiful. He is especially famous for hhis primeval forest, home to trees over 500 years old. This forest is considered one of the few ancient woodlands in Europe. All the more gratifying is the fact that Biogradska Gora is not closed to the public but is fully accessible. This means it can be explored beautifully, even off the beaten track.
The entrance to the route is located along the M3 near the village of Kraljevo Kolo. Turn right, cross the Tara River, and shortly afterward, you’ll find yourself on a narrow road that initially winds through a few hairpin bends before reaching Biogradska Lake. Surrounding this idyllic glacier lake, situated at an altitude of 1,100 meters, stretches the ancient forest. To get a closer look, the best option is to follow the designated walking trail that loops around the lake.
This hike is the perfect preparation for what lies ahead. From here, the off-road adventure begins in earnest. A narrow, earthy forest path climbs the mountainside in countless switchbacks. Some of the turns are so tight that even with a four-wheel-drive vehicle, reversing is necessary. Views? None to speak of, thanks to the dense forest. But that changes as the path reaches a plateau at around 1,600 meters. Passing two managed huts, a gravel track now traverses the plateau – still challenging – gradually climbing to approximately 1,900 meters before reaching its temporary end at the Kolašin 1600 ski center. Temporary, because the center is accessible via an asphalt road and is therefore well-frequented, even in summer.

Fantastic route, with varied and spectacular scenery! The road surface at the start of the route is good. The hairpin turns are easy to navigate with a bit of care. Camping Janketic comes highly recommended! Neat and clean restroom facilities with hot showers in the evening and in the morning. Be sure to stop here, even if it’s just for a food and drink break or a nice hike! But staying overnight is also highly recommended! After the campground, the road surface gets worse, with deep, worn-out ruts. You really have to find your way sometimes. Definitely not doable without a 4x4!
