In the forests of Velebit

The 35 km long tour leads into the Croatian mountains. It starts on a high plateau above the coastline on the E 65 near the island of Rab. You can experience fantastic views of the offshore islands and beautiful bathing bays.

The starting point of the tour is at the rustic Alan mountain hut. Past a few small mountain villages, the route winds uphill to reach the piste. Above the treetops, the fantastic view is impressive. The first section of the wide gravel track goes downhill until it joins a tarmac road at a shelter. Past a hamlet, the wide road winds through the forest until it continues uphill again on gravel through a dense canopy of leaves. Potholes dot the ground. A clearing with a mountain hut, fountain and picnic table is a good place to take a break. The last section is bumpy and riddled with rain holes. The tour ends in the valley near Kucista Cesaricka on the 5199. Following the winding, steep road down to the sea, you reach the town of Karlobag. Many small cafes and restaurants located directly on the water invite you to linger.
