A beautiful, varied trail; the scree definitely gets larger toward the end, but it's still manageable.

Cliff Trail
Around 30 km from Rijeka, this 17 km long panoramic tour runs parallel to the coast on a tarmac road and on gravel through the hilly landscape in the Croatian hinterland.
The starting point is on the 5068 near the village of Hreljin, which is beautifully situated on a mountain slope. The Hreljin Castle, with very well-preserved ruins, is worth seeing. From here you have a wonderful view of the Bay of Bakar. The very narrow tarmac road with chippings leads first through the forest, past an electric power station and then over a bridge. There are a few houses along the route. After a clearing you reach the Vidikovac Mahavica viewpoint. From the rocky outcrop with railings you can see a lake and the sea all the way down to the valley to Rijeka. The route continues on a level through meadows with little vegetation. In the next section you come across a wide gravel track. Driving downhill you pass a ruin with a monument and a fountain. The track is now rockier. The view is fantastic. In the last section of the route, the gravel becomes deeper, with lots of rubble and stones on the ground. The track winds its way along jagged rock faces, leading down to the road. There are many small villages and fantastic viewpoints in the area. A trip to the bustling tourist center of Crikvenica on the coast is also a good idea after the tour.

If you're coming from the coast, it's worth taking the old Austrian military road that starts behind the village of Mali Dol. After passing the bunkers, you can drive along a short stretch of gravel road. The actual track is easy at the start and is only restricted by the dense vegetation. The side mirrors will catch a few branches. The viewpoint is worth the effort. Shortly after, we turned off toward the remote “ZP Drivenik” train station in the middle of nowhere and then came out again in Lič.
The track is unsuitable for vehicles wider than 2 meters and 2.5 meters high, or even smaller. The first half is fine, but then it gets very narrow through the brush. For trucks, the track must be set to red; for vans, to gray. Anyone who cares about their paint job should avoid this route. If you don’t care about any of that… We’ve now officially broken in our vehicle, but then had to back up for over a kilometer—there was no place to turn around. Was it necessary, or was the track worth it? No.
The trail offers spectacular views and plenty of great spots to stop, take a break, or even spend the night. The first 95% of the route is completely easygoing (paved & light gravel). This makes the final stretch all the more surprising, as it features steep switchbacks with loose terrain. However, with a low gear ratio and reduced tire pressure (I was using AT tires), this section can be easily mastered. I would therefore rate the difficulty level as “moderate” at best.
I rode this route a few days ago. I rode it in reverse, starting at Grizane-Belgrade. The climb was pretty challenging 😁. However, it feels like the last 10 km are now paved. But still a beautiful route with lovely viewpoints
