A beautiful, varied route with great views from the summit. The short hike from the parking lot is well worth it. On the way down toward Jelsa, there are a few short sections with severe erosion and loose scree.
Sveti Nikola
In the middle of the island of Hvar, this trail takes you to the highest peak on the island. Panoramic views of the island and the sea await you from a chapel built on the rocks.
Just after the tunnel to Hvar, the route branches off from the D116. Initially tarred, it leads through the lonely mountain regions. Later and further up, gravel sections alternate with concrete passages. The route is easy to drive.
Shortly afterwards, you reach a barren plain. The last section leads uphill again to the summit. The route ends at the end point of the tour, a car park. You can walk to the Sveti Nikola church with its summit cross. Here you can enjoy the magnificent view of the impressive south coast with its rocky bays and the fishing village of Sveta Nedjelja.
The way down towards Jelsa on the D116 is much more challenging. Immediately after leaving the plateau, the route goes steeply downhill on a gravelly trail with many washouts and gullies. The route continues through a few bends past impressive rock formations.
Further down, the trail becomes easier again and runs along vineyards, olive trees and Mediterranean vegetation into the village.
