One of the most fascinating places on the island, which is truly well-endowed with natural phenomena, is the Mamutorco River Gorge. A natural canyon that cuts deep into the land. You are immediately impressed by the steep, jagged rocks that shimmer in various shades of ochre and gray. Further up, the rocks are covered in mosses and lichens that give them green and yellow tones. They were formed by thousands of years of erosion. The walls of the gorge rise almost vertically and form a natural cathedral made of stone. The Rio Mamutorco meanders picturesquely between them.
The gorge has a lot to offer not only for the eye, but also for the nose. It smells of damp rock, earth and herbs everywhere. The air down here is cooler and fresher than up above, the scent of rosemary and thyme is in the air.

The start of this route, which is quite demanding for drivers, is between the two galleries of the SS 125, about ten kilometers east of the town of Urzulei. The start of this technically demanding route lies between the two galleries on the SS 125, roughly ten kilometers east of the village of Urzulei. The wheat is separated from the chaff right at the beginning, as the path climbs steeply before immediately plunging back down. Coarse gravel, loose stones, ruts, and washouts put our skills to the test. In places, the track hugs the edge of a precipice—not for the faint-hearted. Yet, a magnificent view awaits, looking out over the Ogliastra plain as it stretches toward the coast. The final six kilometers offer a leisurely ride into Triei, the tour's endpoint.
