There are simply too many mines in the hilly area between Fluminimaggiore and Domusnovas. The rock must have been rich back then. That's why the track described below leads to some mines. There are two of them, which are approached on a fairly demanding route: San Benedetto and Malacalzetta.

The access road can be reached on the SS 126 about eight kilometers south of Fluminimaggiore. From there, another two kilometers on the SP 89, and the tires are already rolling through the cozy center of the mountain village of San Benedetto. After that, the road continues on gravel. Very relaxed at first. Wide roadway, medium-sized gravel, moderate gradient. Then the mine facilities of San Benedetto come into view. The visual highlight are the old wagons that stand up on the slope and are slowly rusting away. Continue to the Malacalzetta mine. There are no wagons to be seen there, just tunnels and former workers' houses.
Behind the facility, the terrain finally gets serious. The path becomes increasingly narrow, rocky and full of holes. Steep sections and switchbacks add the right spice to this off-road dish. Four-wheel drive and no fear of scratches on the car, as well as momentum and rough studs on the motorcycle, are prerequisites for unadulterated off-road fun. Finally, there is a final climb to 663 meters, then it's a quick return on what is now an easy track to the town of San Benedetto.
