Tre-Valli-Mountainroute
Northwest of Lake Idro, there is the Tre Valli Mountain Route, a route for adventurous panorama fans. It leads from the Passo di Croce Domini over the passes of the Giogo della Bala (2176 metres) and Goletto delle Crocette (2070 metres). It is extremely promising, but is only gravel in large parts. However, this surface is kept in good condition, which means that the road, which mainly runs along the mountainside, can be mastered without any problems with street motorcycles and normal cars – at least in dry conditions. It is worth taking a break at the beautiful picnic area, which is located near the idyllically situated Lago di Lavena, about five kilometres south of the Croce Domini. The last part to the Giogo del Maniva is finally on paved ground.
A beautiful mountain pass road that’s well-suited for off-road beginners. It offered several stunning views, and traffic was very light. The surface consists mostly of medium-sized gravel, with occasional fist-sized rocks. There were no excessive inclines or descents. In dry conditions, a 70/30 tire is more than sufficient.
Goletto delle Crocette SG3 Giogo della Bala SG 3 Passodi Croce Domini SG 3 https://alpenrouten.de/Tre-Valli-Hoehenstrasse_track72.html The partially graveled Tre Valli High Road (Strada Tre Valli, SS.345) connects the Passo di Croce Domini (N) with the Giogo del Maniva (S). The gravel section is located between Passo di Croce Domini and the turnoff for the spur road to the summit of Dosso dei Galli (km 8.7), where there is an abandoned military radio station whose two huge parabolic reflectors are visible from afar. The track begins at Passo di Croce Domini. The high-altitude road branching off here, which has been “under construction” for many years, is often marked with a no-entry sign or indicated as closed, though only for liability reasons. Immediately after that, the road begins to climb and quickly reaches the 2,000-meter mark. At km 7.34, you pass the remains of the Rifugio Bonardi at the Giogo della Bala. The track also includes a short detour to the previously mentioned summit of Dosso dei Galli (2,196 m) at km 8.67. On the now-paved continuation, the next point reached is Goletto delle Crocette (km 11.75). The track ends after just under 19 km at the Giogo del Maniva, from where you can either continue into Val Trompia (W) or take a narrow road eastward toward Bagolino and on to Lake Idro. The interesting continuation of the high-altitude road via Passo del Dosso Alto, Passo della Spina, and Passo del Marè to Anfo—which had been blocked since 2003 by a landslide approximately 700 m southeast of Giogo del Maniva—has been fully passable again since 2009.

The Passo di Croce Domini is currently closed. There is no information available on how long it will remain closed or when it will reopen.
