The Ogliastra plain or Pianura Ogliastrina is a geographical region in eastern Sardinia, which roughly coincides with the province of Ogliastra of the same name. This region is known for its diverse landscapes, which range from fertile plains to high mountains and steep coasts. Ogliastra is mostly flat and is dominated by the surrounding hills. It is very suitable for agriculture, there are pastures, olive groves, grain fields and orchards. The soil is fertile, the mild Mediterranean climate favors the cultivation of olives, citrus fruits and grapes.

A good opportunity to explore Ogliastra is a drive on the tracks west of the SP 56. These are usually wide and have a good surface. Small differences in altitude, dry, flat stream beds and hardly any traffic compose a relaxed, harmonious off-road cocktail.

It starts on the SP 56, about five kilometers west of the town of Lotzorai. Turn right and head out onto the track. It meanders harmlessly through a picture-book landscape of olive terraces, orchards and vineyards. About halfway there is a simple ford at the Riu Pramaera, after which it is a relaxed ride back to the SP 56.
