A nice and scenic route. The ford mentioned in the other comment is now passable—there are currently no obstructions or road closures on this path. Side note: The first 15 km (approximately) of the trail are now paved; there is no longer any gravel.

Through Monti Gennargentu
A gravel road begins on the western shore of Lago Alto Flumendosa, which crosses the Monti Gennargentu and comes out in the town of Desulo. Rating: highly recommended. This route is a real challenge. Not just because it is very long by Sardinian standards. It overcomes narrow, rocky passages, steep ascents and descents as well as harmless, wide slopes in a varied way. So you never get bored. In between, wonderful views over the Gennargentu mountains provide visual appeal.
Start at the reservoir. The first few kilometers circle steeply down to the bed of the Flumendosa, cross the river and then climb 400 meters in altitude over a few kilometers. The route then curves between 900 and 1,100 meters in a constant up and down around the Punta la Marmora, the highest mountain in Sardinia at 1,834 meters. The surface alternates between medium gravel and coarse stones, so the excitement never lets up and you have to constantly feel your way over tricky spots in short gear. At the end of the route, the refreshment in the village bar in Desulo comes at just the right time.
