Through the Monti Arci
The route from the village of Uras through the Monte Arci towards Oristano is extremely varied both in terms of driving and landscape. In terms of driving, it is varied because it has all kinds of different road surfaces, tight bends and steep sections. And in terms of landscape, it leads through forests, over mountain ranges and past fantastic viewpoints.
The route begins about four kilometers east of Uras on the SS 442. The spot is impossible to miss, because there is a special kind of rock there, the Sa perda sparrada, namely one that looks like it has been cut into two parts in the middle by an oversized saw. In reality, it was nature that split this two-meter-high and seven-meter-long volcanic boulder. First, however, physical and chemical processes peeled the originally much larger rock smaller and smaller like an onion. Then came an extreme and rapid drop in temperature, which first pulled the rock together and then pushed it apart again. The result – voilà.
The route is easy to drive with a little off-road experience and the right vehicle. Only the sometimes tight bends and the road that gets narrower towards the end make you sweat in your armpits.
