In the south of Sant' Antioco
The island of Sant' Antioco is the fourth largest island in Italy and is located on the southwest coast of Sardinia, connected to the mainland by a causeway. It is one of the oldest inhabited areas in the Mediterranean. The town of Sant' Antioco, the largest on the island, is home to remains from the Punic and Roman periods, including a Phoenician-Punic necropolis and an underground sanctuary in the Basilica of Sant’ Antioco. The island is named after Saint Antiochus, the patron saint of Sardinia, whose cult still plays a role today.
Down in the south of the island there is a short, well-maintained track that not only offers a lot of scenery, but also leads past several geological excavation sites. This is where off-road fun and culture come together. "Museo senza Confini", Museum without Borders, is the name of the cultural project on Sant' Antioco. Without borders means that history is not locked up in buildings as usual, but is shown outside in the open air. In this way, the whole island becomes an open-air museum.
The route has no surprises in terms of driving technique and is also suitable for large trucks. The fine gravel surface is well compacted, there is enough space, and the differences in height are small. The start is on the SP 76 at the hamlet of Peonia Rosa, the end point is north of there on an unnamed side road of the SP 76.
