The off-road tour through the coastal mountains between Cagliari and Capo Carbonara is one of the most attractive in Sardinia for a number of reasons. Firstly, because of its scenic beauty and untouched nature. Secondly, because of the variety that the route offers. And thirdly, because it offers just the right amount of adventure to fully enjoy off-road driving without any danger.

The route starts in the coastal town of Geremeas, crosses the SS 125 and then follows the course of the Riu Mannu uphill. Characteristics: endless fords. Dried out in summer, mostly filled with water in winter. Depending on the amount of rain, this can be exciting. The banks are often damaged by the masses of water, so that you have to lend a hand to get your car or motorbike safely into the stream bed and out again.

The Cascatelli di Corti Ois waterfalls come into view and are a good place to stop. After that, it continues in the same style: ascents and descents, sometimes steep, sometimes less steep, curves and bends, stream beds. The final stop is at a height of just over 700 metres. The Nuraghe remains of Sa Fraigada are worth a visit. With a great panorama and a view to the west, this place has something magical about it, especially at sunset.

Conditions, closures and tips — from members who drove here recently.

We weren’t at all thrilled with the trail—in fact, we were really disappointed. The route description doesn’t match reality. Most of the route is paved, so I wouldn’t even call it “off-road.” Even two of the fords were concrete. For the other 3 or 4 fords, however, you’ll need four-wheel drive and sufficient ground clearance. The route isn’t suitable for wider or taller vehicles, as dense vegetation usually extends from the roadside into the roadway, and at heights of about 2 meters or more, thicker branches often extend all the way to the middle of the road. We’re not too fussy about our paint job, but the route simply isn’t worth scratching the paint, especially since you’re not actually driving off-road and you can easily reach the end of the track and the viewpoint there via regular roads. We therefore abandoned the drive in our 4x4 Sprinter and ended up cycling the route instead.
