Just before the parking lot by the Leni River, there is a locked gate. Or rather, the road is already closed to traffic about a kilometer before it. You have to turn around.

To Lago di Montimannu
The Lago di Montimannu, located north of the town of Domusnóvas at an altitude of 250 metres, was created in the 1960s by building a dam that not only serves to supply water to the surrounding towns. With its area of half a square kilometre, the lake also plays an important role in irrigating the entire region. This is an important task, especially on the generally water-poor island of Sardinia.
The reservoir is fed by the Rio Leni, which rises in the Gennargentu mountains. The river meanders picturesquely through deep gorges and offers romantics some very pretty picnic spots right on the banks.
This scenic route is the final stage of a tough off-road route that begins about four kilometres behind Domusnóvas. The first few kilometres are relatively easy on asphalt, but then things get tough. A rough stone track meanders steadily uphill, mostly through dense forests of oak and cork oak. Sometimes narrow, sometimes very narrow, it curves around the limestone Monte Anzeddu. Tight curves, wide curves and hairpin bends guarantee plenty of excitement. The track reaches its culmination point at an altitude of 751 meters and then curves downhill towards the reservoir. A reasonable ground clearance and some off-road experience are a must here.
The final stage, as mentioned, runs along the Rio Leni in a relaxed and easy-to-drive manner and ends just before the asphalted shore road of the reservoir.
