The Golgo plateau is a rough, mystical landscape in the hinterland of Baunei and, with its sparse vegetation and jagged limestone formations, could have come from another era. Far away from everyday life and civilization, time seems to stand still. Wild goats and mouflons roam everywhere, their fur shimmering in the sun and moving almost silently through the rocks. A deep silence falls over the land, only interrupted by the occasional call of an eagle.

The Riu Codula Sisine adjoins the Golgo plateau. This river winds through one of the most spectacular gorges in eastern Sardinia, the Codula Sisine with its bizarre limestone walls. While the riverbed is full of water in the rainy season, it dries out completely in summer and autumn and can be traveled by four-wheel drive or enduro. It ends at the sea on the dream beach of Cala Sisine. Small catch: those who want to swim have to walk the last two kilometers.

The journey begins on the SS 125, four kilometers north of Baunei, below the 670 meter high Cenna Arramene mountain. A short uphill stretch with a great view of the Ogliastra plain is followed by a long downhill passage to the Golgo plateau. A decent road surface with medium-coarse gravel. We take our first break at the church of San Pietro. The simple building was probably built in the Middle Ages by shepherds who asked Saint Peter for help. Today San Pietro attracts mainly locals who want to recover from the stress of everyday life.

The last ten kilometers of the route basically run along and in the riverbed of the Codula Sisine. It crosses it countless times, which is great fun when it's dry and a small adventure in the rainy season.

Apart from a few places with large stones, difficulties are not to be expected, provided there is decent ground clearance.
