Circular course through the woods
Southwest of the Salto di Quirra missile launch site there is an area around a mountain called Pran e Lettus, 487 metres high, which is fortunately completely untouched by the negative achievements of the arms industry. It is largely covered by the usual Mediterranean fauna, i.e. cork oaks, holm oaks and maquis. As this type of vegetation does not grow particularly high, the region is not lacking in pretty views. Part of the area is crossed by the Flumendosa river. At 122 kilometres long, it is the second longest river in Sardinia after the Tirso. It rises in the Gennargentu mountains and flows into the sea near Villaputzu. The Flumendosa provides irrigation for the Sarrabus region, but was also responsible for severe flooding until two reservoirs were built.
The route: On the SP 28 east of Armungia, you pass under the SS 387, turn left onto a gravel road and follow the river for the first few kilometers. Beautiful views of the valley, a relaxed ride. After about six kilometers, the climb begins to a kind of plateau at a height of around 500 meters. The gravel remains good, only the road width varies. From kilometer 14, the route begins the long approach back to the Flumendosa valley. It follows this for a while and meets the beginning of the tour again at the underpass of the 337. To finish off, a visit to the charming town of Armungia is recommended. It is picturesquely grouped around an old Nuragic tower.
