Around Punta Serpeddi
It is difficult to drive, beautifully long and has a lot of elevation changes. And is therefore heaven for us off-roaders. It is a route in the southeast of Sardinia, north of Cagliari. It penetrates deep into the Sarrabus Mountains, curves around the peak of Punta Sepeddi, brushes against other mountain peaks and finally drops down into the valley of the Flumendosa towards Villasalto. Rarely does an off-road route in Sardinia combine so many positive attributes.
So let's head for the little town of Burcei, which can be reached via the NSA 371 road. Burcei has agricultural origins and is known for olive and wine growing, which dates back to Roman times. The region was isolated for centuries, which is why the inhabitants were able to develop their own culture and customs.
Just behind Brucei, the route takes a deep breath, leads a short way downhill, and then tackles the steep, long climb to Punta Serpeddi. From 550 to 970 meters above sea level, it circles uphill in curves and bends on a rough, holey surface with lots of furrows and gullies. Not for vehicles without decent ground clearance. Then the Punta Serpeddi appears above the handlebars or steering wheel. The mountain is part of the Monte dei Sette Fratelli mountain range, which is known for rugged landscapes and diverse flora and fauna: Mediterranean maquis, holm oaks, strawberry trees, juniper and myrtle. All mountain slopes are particularly fragrant up here in spring and summer.
The last chance to admire the view, because after the Punta Serpeddi, the challenging piste penetrates deep into the forest. Initially running along a ridge, it gradually loses altitude, finally overcomes another ridge and then drops below the Monte Caradeddu into the valley to Villasalto.
