In the Ogliastra plain, halfway between the mountains and the sea, a recommended track circles the 647-meter-high Monte Scoine. Recommended because it is just the right mix of relaxed sightseeing and exciting off-road driving.

The Monte Scoine rises up over green slopes and offers spectacular views of the east coast of Sardinia. The mountain is part of the limestone massif that characterizes the area because it creates striking rock formations and steep cliffs. For experienced hikers, the paths around the Scoine are the ideal playground. The Nuraghes also settled up here, which can be seen from the typical stone towers of this ancient culture.

Start in Santa Maria di Navarrese. The name Navarra shows an old connection to the royal house of the same name in Spain. The town is picturesquely situated on the Golfo di Orosei, its centerpiece is the small but fine basilica, which was originally built as a place of pilgrimage. After Santa Maria (towards Pedra Longa) there is initially a stretch of asphalt, which soon turns into gravel. Now and then there is a steep section, a narrow spot, large boulders - the route never gets boring. This is also due to the great view of the coast. A hairpin bend and the gravel road continues uphill. Finally the track stays at the same level and meets the SS 125 about two kilometers before Baunei.

Beautiful ocean view—easy to drive. It's best to follow the GPX track—then head straight down to Pedra Longa for a swim
