Altopiano di Buddusò
Anyone who has ever seen the Sardinia Rally, which takes place every year in June, on TV or YouTube will know that this WRC World Championship event, along with the Finland Rally, has the most spectacular jumps. This means that the rally drivers keep their foot on the gas before a hill, jump over it and land 20 to 30 meters further away. A slight swerve before the jump is enough to land offset rather than parallel to the road. If the vehicle then only lands in the ditch, it has gotten off lightly. Otherwise, it risks rolling sideways.
One of these jumps is on the Altopiano di Buddosò in the northeast of the island, a little east of the town of the same name. If you want, you can reach this spot plus another "ski jump" by four-wheel drive. On a gravel road that begins in the typical Sardinian village of Alà dei Sardi and ends on the SS 389 east of Buddosò. Wide, slightly hilly and with a good surface, it ensures unadulterated off-road fun. Beautiful views alternate with dense stands of stone and cork oaks and lighten the look. Shortly before the end, the so-called Arena di Loelle is another place where the rally cars take off. So it's better to take your foot off the gas here.
