Fort Fenestrelle
From the town of Susa on the SS 24, this 42 km tour leads over the mountains to Depot on the SP 23R near Fenestrelle. A connection between the Susa and Chisone valleys.
The small town of Meana di Susa is the starting point. An initially paved, winding road winds its way uphill. You pass a cozy picnic area with a fountain and benches, beautifully situated in the chestnut forest. In the next section, a gravel road leads to the Colle delle Finestre with the fort of the same name. The view of the landscape and the pass road is wonderful. After the Pian delle Alpe pass, a tarred section takes you back onto a gravel road and you reach the abandoned fortress of Forte Serre Marie, which has been conquered by the forest. Next, a stitch leads along lightly wooded mountain slopes up to the Rifugio Selleries. It is located on a small lake and has beautiful meadows that are perfect for a picnic. The last part of the route leads back over sharp hairpin bends to the end of the route. To the village of Depot on the Chisone river, not far from Fenestrelle. A visit to the impressive, gigantic Fenestrelle fort is recommended.
