From the SS 453, the route ascends into the Ligurian mountains. This 19 km tour, with a spur, takes you to elevations of over 1,000 meters.

Near the coastal town of Albenga, the route begins in the village of Gazzo. The first part of the track is a solid gravel path. A spur climbs uphill to the first stop, the Church of Cosma Damiano. This peaceful and relaxing spot, surrounded by meadows perfect for picnics, offers a beautiful view from the chapel’s forecourt over the small surrounding valleys of Liguria and Piedmont.
The second section of the spur transitions to a gravel, single-lane path with areas of erosion. It partly runs through the forest and along a ridge. At the summit, you’ll find the pilgrimage church Santuario della Madonna della Neve, a charming building constructed in typical mountain architecture. From here, you can enjoy panoramic views in complete tranquility.
The return route follows a dusty, fine gravel track that winds through mostly shaded forest paths, offering views of the small valleys below. The track ends in the village of Moano, where it connects to a paved road. From there, a detour to Pieve di Teco is well worth it. This charming medieval village features attractions such as the Teatro Salvini, the smallest theater in Europe, located in the historic center, and the Church of San Giovanni Battista, home to valuable sculptures.

https://alpenrouten.de/Madonna-del-Monte_point1602.html North of Gazzo, at the end of a (short) ridge trail, stands the Madonna del Monte Chapel. The approach branches off to the north at Borghetto di Arróscia from the SS.453, which runs through the Arróscio Valley. The road, which is initially paved, leads first to Gazzo. Shortly thereafter, the unpaved section begins, winding its way up in wide switchbacks to a saddle where a small sanctuary is located. From here, the trail runs along the ridge toward the northeast and ends after just under a kilometer at the Madonna del Monte Chapel. To the southwest, there is a cross-connection to Colla Domenica, though its current passability is unknown
