We hiked up to the lake in perfect weather. The trail is in very good condition. Unfortunately, the gate at the lake is closed. There’s no sign explaining why or for how long. The way back has a lot of potholes, but the view is much better.

Lac des Sagnes
This 22 km-long, relaxed loop takes you through the untouched nature of the French mountains, leading to a small mountain lake and stunning viewpoints. The tour starts at Jausiers on D 900.
From Jausiers, the paved road C 4 winds through the valley, and the gravel track begins at the forest. In the first section, the road steadily ascends alongside meadows through a beautiful forested area. The path is partly bordered by stone walls. Following the river, the wide track takes you past a house and continues straight ahead towards a detour to Lac des Sagnes. This turquoise glittering mountain lake is situated on a plateau in a breathtaking mountain landscape with numerous river arms and a waterfall.
After returning from the detour, turn onto a path covered with grass at a junction. A stop at a landslide slope provides a great viewpoint overlooking Fort Cuguret. The final section of the route descends in switchbacks. After crossing a ford, you return to D 64, which lies between Col de la Bonette and Jausiers.
After the tour, a detour to the popular pass is recommended. The winding road leads through the breathtaking mountain scenery with fantastic panoramic views.
