This 3.5 km long gravel road, including a detour to the managed alpine pasture (closed on Mondays, Tuesdays and "in really bad weather"), winds its way through Allgäu meadows and forests in beautiful curves with only slight inclines and declines. It is finely graveled and well maintained. Even during and after rainfall, there are no muddy puddles. Occasionally, you will come across tar residues along the way.
On the day of travel, July 31, 2024, road construction work was underway in the Oberschwarzenberg and Unterschwarzenberg areas. The western access to the start of the gravel road was therefore partly via roads that were actually closed and whose closure signs were in place.
Normally, the western access must be made directly from Unterschwarzenberg. The access roads from Bachtel and the St 2520 are normally closed.
