On the coast in southern Croatia, at the height of the island of Brac, the 8 km route leads through the impressive mountains, past vineyards and into the beautiful, unspoilt nature.

You turn off the D 76 at Bast and first drive through an area with many wide areas used for growing wine. Then you go up into the barren, rugged mountain landscape. Only a few trees line the track. You drive on coarse gravel, the ground is characterized by ruts. Rubble and larger boulders lie along the side of the road. The next section goes through a forest, followed by a hairpin bend. Coming out of the forest in the open air you come to a pond surrounded by flowering bushes. Wonderful splashes of color in the untouched landscape, with striking rocks, fragrant spruce trees and broom bushes. However, the paths can be heavily overgrown, and driving a wide vehicle there may result in damage to the paintwork. In the last section, the route leads up a mountain slope again and the tour ends at the D 6196. A narrow, winding road takes you to the tourist center of Makarska on the D 8. From the coast you have a wonderful view of the offshore island of Brac and the turquoise blue sea of the Croatian Adriatic.

You can bypass the 2.1-meter height restriction at Bast by leaving the D8 northbound at 43.34422, 16.97147. Take a wide gravel road, heading first toward the D76, then toward the trailhead. Truly beautiful views from up there. Unfortunately, the path is very overgrown; if you’re driving a wide vehicle, the pine trees and broom will scrape the car pretty badly. In the middle of the path is a Game of Thrones filming location. Also interesting: the abandoned site in Krvavica.

In the morning we rode the panorama slope, after a break on the beach we wanted to return via the southern slope, but then turned back before a steeper, very scree-like section, two of us with Socius and already a bit exhausted, maybe another time. In any case, the route was a little more difficult than the panoramic slope, with a lot more rough scree.

There is a 2.10-meter height restriction at the entrance near Bast, so we were unable to drive along that route.
