Hi, part of the road up to the first pass and beyond is now asphalted. The ascent to Bektashi Teqe is easy, a wide, newly paved road. Nevertheless, an absolute highlight.

To clear up any confusion about names right from the start: Tomorr (in Albanian, Tomorri or Mali i Tomorrit) is a mountain massif in southern Albania, stretching approximately fifty kilometers from south to north. Its two main peaks rise to 2,415 m and 2,402 m. The long ridge connecting the two peaks makes Tomorr resemble a massive ship. About 4,000 hectares surrounding the mountain are protected as the Tomorr National Park (Parku Kombëtar Mali i Tomorrit). For clarity: Mali means "mountain," and Maja means "mountain peak."
Got it? Then let’s head out on an off-road adventure through the Tomorr National Park. The starting point is the village of Pronovik, about four kilometers south of Poliçan. A wide, easy gravel road winds uphill in numerous bends, reaching a small pass at nearly 1,500 meters. From here, a drivable path branches off to the left, leading to the Bektashi Teqe, a small mosque of the Bektashi Order. This Sufi brotherhood follows mystical Islamic traditions, emphasizing asceticism and poverty. The moderately challenging climb is well worth it: at over 2,400 meters, you'll enjoy stunning views of the entire Tomorr massif.
Back at the pass, the route follows the gravel road downhill, crossing several rough ruts before arriving at the hiking village of Gjerbës. A break at one of the cozy cafés here is highly recommended. Leaving Gjerbës, the track climbs again in beautiful switchbacks, then passes through a vast forested area. Finally, it descends once more in a series of serpentines, ending in Çorovodë, nestled in the valley of the Osum River.
