From the Osum River Gorge in the north, a gravel track leads over a mountain ridge southward into the valley of the Vjosa River. It’s nothing spectacular, not a major off-road challenge, but simply a pleasant track to drive with serene picnic spots and fantastic views.
The starting point can be reached from Çorovodë via the SH 72. Near the village of Zabërzan, the asphalt transitions into fine, well-maintained gravel. For a short distance, the route continues to follow the Osum, before winding its way up the mountain in a mix of wide and tight curves. The track crosses a ridge and then gradually descends into the valley.
At the bottom, it meets the Lomnicës River, where a few idyllic spots make for perfect breaks or even overnight stays. From there, the route continues downhill alongside the river, eventually reaching the Vjosa Valley near the village of Piskovë, where the asphalt of the SH 75 comes into view.

Conditions, closures and tips — from members who drove here recently.

Definitely not blue. Very washed out, partly loose gravel with larger rocks. Two or three sections of the trail have been rerouted and deviate slightly from the track available here. However, it was no problem for my vehicle, which has good ground clearance. Locals were only driving 4x4s on the key sections.

It really is a blue trail. There are still a few ruts left over from the last rain, but it’s no problem. With good ground clearance and some skill, it’s drivable even without a 4x4. Better not to attempt it in the rain or when the ground is wet.
A local passed us in his Fiesta on the toughest part of the trail.

The route is by no means “easy”; in dry conditions it is at least a “red” level, and in wet or rainy conditions it is definitely a “black” level. Coming from Osum Canyon, there are three heavily rutted, steep dirt climbs. High ground clearance is absolutely essential. At the crest before a hamlet, there is a narrow, overgrown ascent. On the descent to the south, a passage through rockfall narrows the route even further.

We came back after 2025 because the route was easy and a real pleasure to drive back then. This year, there are deep ruts, severe erosion, and broken road edges, so it’s only recommended for experienced drivers. The enjoyment of the beautiful mountain scenery has fallen by the wayside.
